Easter Hope for Our Church, Our World and the Creation

The National Convention of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Canada (ELCIC) met online, July 15–16, during three, three-hour sessions. The convention theme Let There Be Greening underlines our Easter hope for our church, our world and the creation.

In her address to the convention, National Bishop Susan Johnson acknowledged the harms that members of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community have experienced in the church.

“Today I apologize to the members of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community for the ways that we have not lived up to our commitments and to the ways we have treated you in the past and even now,” she said. “I want to acknowledge the harms that members of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community have experienced in our church.”

The July/August 2022 issue of Canada Lutheran provides an up-to-date look at the many topics and themes covered throughout the ELCIC’s first ever virtual gathering. In taking care of the necessary business, leaders and delegates will gather again next summer in Calgary, AB. in a joint assembly with the Anglicans.
