As we find the way through our troubling times, we may feel like the people of Israel when they travelled through the wilderness trying to find the way into the Promised Land. In this moment of suspension, it is up to us whether we choose to direct what we can.

The “Promised Land” to which we’re travelling seems a dismally uncertain and dangerous place. We face COVID, the flu and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), climate inaction, war in Europe, economic chaos, medical systems dragging towards collapse, a mental health crisis and a pervasive sense of doubt that leaves us unable to settle or trust—chronically suspended, waiting.
