Transforming the ELCIC’s Theological Schools

Faith, Discernment and Innovation

For over a century, Canada’s Lutheran Theological Schools have been foundational institutions in theological and academic excellence, playing a pivotal role in the education and formation of leadership within our church—past, present and future. The landscape of the ELCIC, and the world as a whole, looks different today compared to when these institutions were first taking shape in the early 1900s. Like the world around us, these institutions are also continuously evolving, taking on challenges and faithfully leaning into opportunities to transform and grow.

The Lutheran Theological Seminary Saskatoon (LTS) in Saskatoon, SK, and Martin Luther University College (Luther) in Waterloo, ON, are poised to take their next faithful steps to provide Christ-centred, inclusive and innovative learning opportunities for individuals carrying out God’s mission in the church and in the world, and both schools are forging innovative paths forward to meet ongoing changes in the church and in society.

Learn more about the work of Lutheran Theological Seminary and Martin Luther University College in this March 2026 feature on the ELCIC’s seminaries by Wendy Christensen-McCormack.
