In an ever-changing world, Rejoicing in Hope is especially pertinent—so applicable that it is the theme of this year’s ELCIC Convention. Stemming from the scriptural basis of Romans 12:12, Rejoice in hope, be patient in suffering, persevere in prayer, it is wording that has evolved from when it was initially chosen, said The Very Rev. Peter Wall, assistant to the national bishop for worship, who is involved with the planning of worship for convention.
With the election of a new National Bishop, to reports from ELCIC task forces, to greetings from special guests, conversations on the vision for the church looking forward from the Facing Today—Dreaming of the Future steering committee, this convention will allow delegates to experience moments of reflection and recommitment to faith. With important decisions ahead and the new steps that the ELCIC is taking to move forward in a more inclusive environment, Rejoicing in Hope reminds us that even in uncertain times, we are encouraged to Rejoice in hope (Romans 12:12), God is with us.
