It began 70 years ago. Displaced masses clogged the back roads of post-war Europe. Since then Canadian Lutherans have reached out to the landless and dispossessed around the world. Now they are doing it again. Through the Reformation Challenge, the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Canada (ELCIC) calls its congregations to sponsor 500 refugees to Canada.
“A core value of my faith is to welcome the stranger, the refugee, the internally displaced, the other. I shall treat him or her as I would like to be treated. I will challenge others, even leaders in my faith community, to do the same.”
The March 2016 issue of Canada Lutheran looks at many historical instances of the acceptance of refugees, the need for sponsorship and provides a guide for those considering sponsoring a refugee or family of refugees. Stay involved in the ELCIC’s Reformation Challenge by considering to sponsor a refugee today.
