Our Global Lutheran Family

How the Lutheran World Federation is Making a Difference in the World

It was close to midnight on a late winter’s evening when Tom Brook, community relations director for Canadian Lutheran World Relief (CLWR), pulled into the parking lot of a Regina hotel. The clerk at the desk had trouble handling Brook’s registration, so Brook gave him his business card. When the young man read it, his face suddenly lit up as he exclaimed, “Oh, Lutherans! They do such wonderful work!”

“To a casual observer, LWF, headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland, is a large bureaucracy representing 145 member churches with over 72 million people in 98 countries. But it is much more than that. It is an international church family with a mission going far beyond simply sharing the Eucharist.”

In September’s issue, Canada Lutheran touches on the relationship between the ELCIC and the LWF, Lutherans and Mennonites, and other significant partnerships across the world. Practicing our faith means more than showing up for church once a week – stay involved in the greater Lutheran Church across the world.
