For the past 75 years, Canadian Lutheran World Relief (CLWR) has been the agency of Lutherans in Canada, helping us to create a healthy and sustainable world where people live in peace with hope, justice, dignity and equality.
Through their work of relief and development, CLWR has helped us live out Jesus’ imperative from Matthew 25:36–40:
Then the righteous will answer him, “Lord, when was it that we saw you hungry and gave you food?”
Food station at refugee camp in Uganda.
“Or thirsty and gave you something to drink?”
Irrigation project near Lalibella, Ethiopia.
“And when was it that we saw you a stranger and welcomed you?”
Welcoming the Alkhatab family to Winnipeg.
“Or naked and gave you clothing? And when was it that we saw you sick or in prison and visited you?”
Director of Nursing at Augusta Victoria Hospital, East Jerusalem.
And the king will answer them, “Truly I tell you, just as you did it to one of the least of these who are members of my family, you did it to me.”
I am proud of the work of CLWR and encourage your continued support. On behalf of the whole church I thank CLWR for being a part of the ministry of the ELCIC and look forward to our shared ministry for the next 75 years.
Rev. Susan Johnson,
ELCIC National Bishop
