Re: In praise of music, Oct/Nov 2022, p. 30.
I wholly endorse the comments of Bishop Pryse concerning the importance of a strong, healthy, well-funded music program.
One thing of concern to many musicians is the increasing incidence of congregations which eliminate live music altogether from worship, and move to partial or complete downloading of music from the Internet. Congregations, please hire real, live musicians and compensate them adequately.
There are many easy-to-access aids near at hand to help our musicians, and strengthen our music programs. The Royal Canadian College of Organists (RCCO) offers on their website a suggested salary scale for musicians, taking into account experience & education. RCCO and the Association of Lutheran Church Musicians (ALCM) offer many opportunities for continuing education, performance & fellowship. —Don Nevile, Waterloo, ON
