On Sunday, Sept. 18, 2022, in many churches the first reading was from the prophet Jeremiah 8:18–9:1. Perhaps not many readers nor listeners detected that this chapter portion coincides with our time: Is there no balm in Gilead, is there no physician there? Why then is there no recovery for the health of the daughter of my people? (Jeremiah 8:22)
With the arrival of COVID-19 in 2020, pressure was placed on the medical industry to find an answer as quickly as possible. The first glimpse of hope came at the end of April when an American biopharmaceutical company announced that it had seen positive results in the testing of an antiviral medication on the virus.
