The December 2023 cover was very disturbing to me. To focus on such a divisive topic when we look forward to the Christmas issue was disappointing.
Our church should never have become involved in this landfill issue. Some people I spoke with said it was a justice issue. Perhaps it was in a way, but the money involved in delving into this landfill when there is no assurance that these bodies are even there makes no sense. When people are struggling to feed their families and heat their homes, and health care is under so much strain, a landfill search is not where valuable dollars need to be spent.
To honour these women, alleged to be in the landfill, could we not instead erect a memorial for them outside the site that would speak volumes about missing and murdered Indigenous women.—Gwen Rasmussen, Starbuck, MB
