Re: Season of Creation, July/Aug back cover ad
Conservationists keep warning and prophesying the doom of our planet as we pollute and misuse it. Governments legislate and fund ailing natural resources. Civic groups, churches and individuals pitch in when they’re informed about a specific need. All this is well and good.
But until we humans learn to love God’s creation non-competitively for what it is instead of seeing it as “lower than” ourselves and existing exclusively for us to use as we choose, we haven’t a hope of passing it on to our grandchildren and great-grandchildren. We need our church leaders, our pastors, teachers, youth workers and Sunday schools to guide and teach us this.
One Christmas a lamb was brought to our church. Before the message, the pastor led it to the manger and sat holding it, inviting the children to come forward to pet and cuddle as she spoke. The hands-on message conveyed a loving, caring Good Shepherd through its intimacy.
