I was disappointed to see the negative letter from Gordon Mensch re: the Guaranteed Basic Income. Research has shown that Guaranteed Basic Income can make a real difference. If possible, look at the partial study done in Dauphin, MB, in the 1980s or look for the results that Finland is having.
We have had a major shock with the COVID-19 pandemic and there is an opportunity to look at significant ways we can improve the lot of Canadians. By putting the money in the hands of the people of Canada we could unleash a major change in activities from education to numerous small businesses being established. Even some large corporations may emerge.
Guaranteed Basic Income would likely pay for itself by tapping into Canadian creativity.—Lorelie Mitchell, Glenboro, ON
