I find it most inappropriate that Canada Lutheran selected a picture of the National Bishop Susan Johnson on the cover of the December 2015 issue. For me that month ought to proclaim the message of Advent and Christmas. Not even her pleasant smile nor the past eight years of service or years to come, which deserve recognition indeed, changes my mind.
After all, there would be countless pictures that reflect beautifully the message of the month for the church. We all know the words from Psalm 24:8a, Who is the King of Glory? The Lord strong and mighty. So there is no room for glorifying personalities. In my humble opinion, the blow-up on page 10 says enough to me about her good looks.
Let’s remember what John the Baptist said when he pointed to Jesus, He must increase, but I must decrease (John 3:30).
The angel said, This will be a sign for you. You will find a child wrapped in bands of cloth and lying in a manger (Luke 2:12). Think! God’s sign from heaven to us people on earth. There is no other thing more important than this one. Let’s glorify that.
