Re: Two autumn ordinations, Dec 2020, p. 20.
It was an honour and a joy to be present at the ordination of Rev. Kate Zaiser. The article does not mention the very careful planning to ensure that everything abided by COVID regulations. We deeply regret removing our masks for the picture of the pastors gathered together even with twometre distance between us.
As leaders in the church, we believe strongly in modelling approaches to COVID regulations that embrace the spirit of the law and not merely the letter. We were all masked for the entire service and only removed them to take that picture.
We wish that we had had the courage at that time to encourage us all to stand in solidarity with those whose work requires them to be masked. We were particularly struck by this as we saw our picture in the COVID Christmas issue, along with the pic-
tures of so many people in our churches meeting outside, on Zoom, and wearing masks. The ELCIC is blessed to have so many members embodying the spirit of caring for our neighbours.—Rev. Dr. Kayko Driedger Hesslein, Calgary, Rev. Wallace Bornhuse, Calgary
