Re: No other gods, Post, April/May, p. 4.
The writers of the Old Testament were male Israelites, humans who could not imagine the greatness of the Creator and so they diminished her/him to a human- size male. God gave the humans the task of taking care of this Earth, by giving us dominion over it. Sadly, we have misused the power and now must make amends as well as we can! Also, the Israelites thought that they were the only ones spoken to instead of all humanity!
From time to time the Creator has sent out great teachers to all peoples and all have taught about different aspects of the Creator, used different names, but all point to one prime persona, the Creator.
The Indigenous Peoples of North America speak of two wolves, one white, one black, who fight in our hearts. Jesus of Nazareth, whom we accept as God’s Son, was an Armenian-speaking Jew chosen by the Creator. He also was one of the great teachers and he told his followers: love one another as I have loved you. And he loved us even to accept a most cruel death, that of crucifixion, so that all who accept his teachings and follow them, may live as he lives!
We, who call ourselves Christian, his followers, are to go out and show the world love! Not our particular cultural prejudices! To love is to help, to feed the hungry, provide shelter and good water, provide education towards a better life within the culture of a particular people, medical aid where needed, and yes, even protection from those who choose to persecute and slay.
