The writing on the wall is writ as large as the jet streams that circle the planet and as real as the “polar vortex” that they create. Not to notice is to have eyes but not see the light, ears but not hear the silence, skin but not feel the cold.
Not long ago humans saw a similar sign called the “ozone hole.” They believed it was real, caused by them, and they repented, changed their ways. And lo, that ozone hole began to shrink. I may live to see it disappear. It was a trial run of the much biggerchange that we are now called to.

I don’t buy that Christianity is the cause of the capitalist, imperialist, colonialist system that rules the world. But I do accept that generations of Christians and their churches have accommodated that system and made themselves comfortable in it.
The planet that I was born into has become, and will remain, less whole, healthy and beautiful than it was. But it is not too late to love the world and to live out that love every day. We Christians have a unique story to tell. To die for love opens the way to rebirth, to a new life that is life in all its fullness. This death, rebirth and new life is a free gift to all.
