Re: Our Christmas music, Dec. 2016, p. 10
I agree absolutely with Ron Friesen’s article on Christmas music. I would like to add that when I was a schoolboy we had Christmas carols at school. No more. Every year the local newspaper would sponsor an evening of carol singing. Everyone got a printed song sheet that they could take home. No more.
It is up to the churches to make up this loss. We certainly can no longer rely on so- ciety to do this. No matter what the liturgical purists say, I suggest more carols during Advent. A single candlelight service is not going to maintain the faith of the children. I also suggest a complete song sheet to take home. Remember the saying, “Familiarity breeds content.”
