Re: A COVID Christmas, p. 19, Dec. 2020.
Incarnation is not a biblical word. Declaring ourselves incarnate Christians very subtly becomes a form of self-worship, [suggesting that] we are in control and God is our benefactor. We can separate and isolate ourselves and feel we are giving God’s witness to the world.
Control of our lives is the big threat of the pandemic. We witness the dissolution of small business, the uncaring practice of eldercare, the curtailment of our own activities and worship life, the spinoffs of control. There is no love in this exercise.
We, who are redeemed by the incarnate One, are loved to love. Driven by love there is much more we can do than follow the rules which keep changing to the whim of the rule makers. It is a challenge to be responsible and follow the leading of the Spirit in our living, but it is worth it. Let your light shine…! —Rev. Robert Hutchison, Stratford, ON
