The 2015 National Convention of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Canada (ELCIC) repudiated and renounced the Doctrine of Discovery as “fundamentally opposed to the gospel of Jesus Christ and our understanding of the inherent rights that individuals and peoples have received from God.” We must not lose sight of the fact that the church is a human institution.
